A gem nestled in the hills between Assisi and Spoleto, in the heart of the Valle Umbra. The Estate of San Pietro a Pettine is an untouched piece of Umbria where history meets a wondrous nature. A place named after the rural Romanesque church that stands right within the property and welcomes the visitors who arrive. Tradition, deep spirituality, and a strong bond with the land: this is where the Azienda Agricola San Pietro a Pettine originates, with the Estate as its precious treasure.
A gem nestled in the heart of Umbria
Spirituality and a unique bond with the land
The Estate is where our heart beats strongly
A place of the soul immersed in beauty
The Romanesque church, the Caporicci family manor, the remains of the birthplace of Saint Antonio Fantosati, a martyr in China, and the truffle fields: a centuries-old story waiting to be discovered
The Truffle Fields
Something unique. The truffle fields of the Estate are a one-of-a-kind phenomenon in the truffle world. They stretch from the Marroggia river with its clayey soil, perfect for white truffles, to the over one thousand meters altitude of the Pigge and Ponze mountains, where we find prized black truffles, uncinato, and summer truffles. Thousands of hectares of spontaneous woodland blend with cultivated truffle fields, where we passionately recover what has been lost in nature. This is where the truffles served in our restaurant and in prestigious kitchens around the world come from.
The Romanesque Church
Secular worship. One of the most interesting and architecturally fascinating rural churches in the southern Valle Umbra, a place with over 900 years of history and mentioned in ancient documents as “San Pietro a Pettine” or “in Pettine“. The etymology has had various interpretations, including the notion that “pettine” refers to the highest point of the hills, the watershed. The building has an essential design, respecting the prototype of the Porziuncola of Assisi, and it is no coincidence that Saint Francis of Assisi used to stop here during his travels to Rome.
The Saint's Cave
Here is where we refine excellence. Just a short walk from the main house, within the Estate, are the remains of the birthplace of Saint Antonio Fantosati, a Christian martyr who died in China. A brick cave where the humidity and temperature are perfect for aging and refining our cheeses.
